The Boiler Scrappage Scheme was launched on 5th January 2010, enabling homeowners to receive a £400 discount towards the supply and fitting of a new A-rated central heating boiler (or similar) when scrapping their old inefficient boiler.
A new A-rated boiler is estimated to save a household more than £300 a year off an average home heating bill.
To qualify your gas boiler must be at least 15 years old and fall into category G, or if it is an oil fired boiler it must be at least 25 years old and category G. (If your existing gas boiler has a pilot light permanently on, then there’s a good chance it is a G-rated boiler.)
You will also need to be a homeowner or tenant and can only apply for the scheme if your boiler is still working and is the main boiler heating the house. For those aged above 60, the device does not have to work.
